Mini Mages: The Legend of The Water Spirit is a Roguelike Dungeon Crawler, which has you, a young mage, sent on a quest to defeat a Kelpie. A shapeshifting water monster from Scottish folklore, that has stolen the water from your village to strengthen it's monstrous form. Your task is to defeat the Kelpie and return the water to the village before it's too late! A task easier written than done, good luck adventurer!

This game was created as part of my Computer Arts honours project at Abertay University to explore how traditionally hand painted/drawn artwork can be incorporated in games. Combining my three passions: art, games, and Scottish folktales. I had aimed to create a game reminiscent of old children's storybooks like the ones I read when I was younger, specifically ones on Scottish folklore. While creating this game, I used traditional media, such as soft and oil pastels, watercolour, needle felting, ink, and block printing. Experimenting with how they can be integrated into video games and how games can be utilised as a modern platform for traditional art and storytelling!

This game incorporates a mixture of 2D story with 3D gameplay. the textures and UI to the typeface were hand created by myself, to see how far I could push the limits of a hand crafted game. I hope you enjoy!
